Who We Are

Laurie, Lee, Iris, and Leaf Arboreal all comprise the core of Eater's Guild. Laurie and Lee (wife and husband) have been passionate homesteaders and farmers for more than a decade. Their children, Iris and Leaf, have been participants at the homestead since birth.

Eater's Guild is also made up of invested interns, a few trusted farmhands, and a host of shareholders.

Our History

The 2011 season will be the 11th season that Lee and Laurie live and work as organic vegetable farmers. It will be their 8th season as stewards to the farm in Bangor, MI.

The 40 acre farm that has sustained Eaters' Guild so well for the past 8 years has been operated as a certified organic farm since the early 1970's. The School of Homesteading, as it was then called, shared its pioneering wisdom with many students and preserved the delicate ecological balance that is required for good organic produce. Now, the rich glacial soils, in concert with Lake Michigan's unique microclimate, support the long and balanced growth needed for organic crop quality.

Laurie studied zoology at University. She brings her practice of homeopathy, work as a yoga instructor, and gifts as an artist to her life as an organic grower.

Lee studied religion and biology at University. He draws on his time as an apprentice on organic farms, like the Whistling Duck in Oregon, to reimagine the small farm.

Lee and Laurie both worked on Walton's Orchard in Frankfort, Michigan. Both have grown as parents with the experience of raising their daughter Iris, born the same year as the Eaters' Guild (2001), and Leaf, born in 2009.
